501 (c) (3)- Helping Homeless Individuals and Pets
Individuals that remain chronically homeless are as such because of various contributing factors. The prevalence of mainstream thinking has not completely solved the issue of providing appropriate permanent housing for the chronically homeless. The housing they need is the type that would give them some stability, keep them off the streets, and provide the support they need to manage daily living.
One Day At A Time Philanthropy, Inc. has been established with ‘out-of-the-box’ thinking. I, Sherri McCabe, believe that as long as the chronically homeless remain on the streets, they cannot move forward with their lives and will continue to drain valuable taxpayer dollars. These chronically homeless individuals are unable to address issues within their lives because they spend so much time trying to survive on the streets in whatever way they can. This is why I want to provide permanent, supportive housing for them. Housing that will give them a safe, stable environment in which they can begin to deal with the issues in their lives that brought them to become chronically homeless. With a roof over their heads and their other basic needs met, it is our hope that they will then be able to begin the long journey to healing.
The chronically homeless have very complex needs. More often than not, these individuals suffer from drug and alcohol abuse, as well as mental illness. These are not problems that go away quickly and so we won’t expect them to give up their drugs and alcohol in order to secure housing. The facility I plan to establish will have services to help these individuals regulate their intake of these substances, bringing their intake down to a moderate level. After this becomes regulated, our goal would be that our services will assist them to function within society to perform basic daily tasks. We will love them and treat them with the dignity they have gone so long without, giving them the consistent support they need to become whole again.
One Day At A Time Philanthropy, Inc. also desires to educate the community about the importance of spaying and neutering their pets. Additionally, we have a goal to set up free or discounted spaying and neutering services for pets in need. Our mission is also to spread the word about adopting pets and to assist facilities that care for pets waiting for a forever home.
Our partnering corporation, Continuing Education Online, LLC, which I also set up, will donate 90% of its net profits to One Day At A Time Philanthropy, Inc., for providing this permanent, supportive housing for the chronically homeless. One Day At A Time Philanthropy, Inc. is a 501 (c) (3) private foundation established not only to assist the chronically homeless but also to help homeless and at-risk pets.
